UCLA Hosts Its First Full Day Dedicated to Iranian Music
A day-long program brings scholarship, storytelling, workshops, and live performance to Schoenberg Hall.
UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music hosted A Day of Iranian Music on May 31, 2026, marking the university’s first event dedicated entirely to Iranian music. The free program was presented by the Gramian-Emrani Center for Iranian Music with UCLA’s Department of Music and Department of Ethnomusicology.
The program combined scholarship and performance: panels on Iranian musical identity and history, a rhythm workshop led by percussionist Pejman Hadadi, outdoor Persian epic storytelling, and a closing concert by Ensemble Iran and student ensembles—including compositions by Tahmoures Pournazeri.
Organizers intend for the event to become an annual tradition.
